I ride an FJR. I'm currently looking for a new helmet. It's either this or RF1100 which in Australia is marketed as a premium sports touring helmet. Would either one be fine for upright riding?

Yes, either one would be just fine on an FJR. I would lean towards the RF-1100 based on feedback I have received. The new GT-Air is very nice too, albeit quite a bit more pricey.

Shoei certainly thinks of good helmet designs. Most of us definitely don't need pure sport-bike helmets (X-Twelve, RF-1100) and so many people buy the wrong helmet. This is the one most riders should be buying. I wanted to try a modular, so I ordered a Neotec. If for some reason I don't like it I'll definitely be buying a Qwest.

Yes, getting the right type of helmet for your type of riding will just make it that much more enjoyable. No reason to have an X-12 on a Harley or a Qwest on a Ducati Panigale. Very different ventilation systems and locations to make certain helmets shine on certain riding styles.
