Yep...been there, done that! Had to chain up over Donner last season...road was closed for 3 days then CHP opened it and had the chain law up for about another 4 days. Guess the plows were having a really hard time keeping up with it. I stopped driving this year, but my husband is out there now...I sure miss driving, but I don't miss the chaining up!

you should have gotten video to show all the doubters how bad it was this past season, to give some of you an idea, when he goes by the boreal/castle peak exit only sign that goes over the highway, the snow banks were above those signs this past season, like this poor guy i run donner 5 nights a week year round and this video just doesnt give it justice for how bad it can really get.

@calvinhobbescinnamon What you are looking in the beginning is not how the road looks like when you get up to the higher elevation. There the road turns to ice and chains are required.

Hey guys, CHP has been sued more than a few times by jerks that when off the road, including one woman that every one said was speeding in this type of weather. They where sued because they did not have the chain sign up and when you get a hold of some shyster lawyer, the sued is on.

right after i got married, i sent my wife pics. from the summit, she couldnt beleive the snow every where. we live in florida.
It usually takes about 2 hours to go from Reno to Sacramento. When I have to chain it usually takes about 5 hours depending on how far we have to run chains.
On a nice day it is just a beautiful ride. It is still beautiful when it is snowing it is stil great just cold and wet. ha ha
