this is how i pray when i was a kid, like i was talking to a person, and people told me i have awful prayers cause i don't follow the structure. i didn't know there was a structure and what too embarrassed to ask what it is so I went on doing on my prayer. now I realize it was actually okay not to follow structure as long as its heartfelt. thank you for this. :)

wow. it is amazing how we take for granted the gift of prayer! It is an honor to be able to talk with the creator of the universe. How often do we acknowledge who we are speaking to when we pray. I know that I am not grateful enough that I can talk to God. "Thank you God for loving me unconditionally and wanting a relationship with me. I am so grateful for the gifts you have given me and for that fact that you choice me as your daughter. You CHOSE me. Praise you God."

Wow! all this teaching about "god" and not a Bible verse in sight, Francis you're amazing!

However the Bible you neglect to mention says in 2 John1:9-11

"9Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son."

Lets not experience "god" lets find out from his own word what he wants.

@theburninator321 Like in the video when he eats his breakfast, is his breakfast meaningless because he eats the same thing every morning? No. Perhaps memorized prayers and written prayers hold just as much meaning, but pray DIFFERENTLY.

hmm... I think Francis has a point that many people fall into a routine and do not realize what is actually happening. Though i do not think Francis does either. Scritpure says that prayer is the intercession of the Holy Spirit, articulating in moans too deep for words, and communicates to God for us and helps us listen. Routine prayers arent meaningless & just because you are trying to picture God, doesn't mean he is any closer or that your prayer is any more effective. Just pray consciously.

I'd just like to see that I don't agree with this idea that having familiar set prayers kills a sense of intimacy and relationship with God. I still sometimes use some of the prayers that I used to say every night at bedtime with my parents - it gives me this wonderful feeling of God's love for me, that I don't need to be clever and creative in the things I say to him. I find the Lord's prayer really helpful sometimes as well - when it says the things that I can't work out how to say to him.
