Alan Garcia, Peru's president, has had to leave a meeting of Asia Pacific leaders in Singapore to deal with a political storm brewing at home over the arrest of an air force officer accused of spying for Chile.

The news has been met with anger among Peruvians and the government has told Chile that it wants the spy case to be cleared up as soon as possible and that all those involved should be sanctioned.

Al Jazeera's Roger Wilkison reports from Lima in Peru.
