NTV - Costa Concordia new Animation of Disaster - Cruise ship aground NTV

At least three people have been confirmed dead as a cruise ship carrying over 4-thousand passengers ran aground off Italy's north-west coast. 69 people are still unaccounted for. Most of those on board the Costa Concordia were evacuated on lifeboats or swam ashore. The vessel hit a sandbar near the island of Giglio late on Friday.

The first mega cruise ship to sink, she ran aground after passing close to the island of Giglio to wave at crewmen's families on the island. This time, while turning near a coral outcrop, the stern struck the rocks while travelling at 15 knots, tearing a 100 foot hole below the waterline.

The captain lowered the anchor, swinging the ship and grounding her, enabling the rescue of 99.5% of the 4,000 people aboard.
