William Primrose, violist, playing his arrangement of Tschaikowsky's None But the Weary(Lonely) Heart for English Columbia in 1934. Primrose (1904-1982) was the most famous violist of his time. He was born in Scotland and began on the violin. He then played the viola with the London String Quartet and went off on his own in 1935 to a long and illustrious career. In the early 1930's, Columbia issued some records on blue shellac as a gimmick to improve sales. They look beautiful but they don't sound any better.

  • How about playing some jazz records on that?

  • @CoolDudeClem I have 1000's of jazz 78's but don't post them because of copyright issues. If I get 3 warnings, all my postings will be deleted.

  • A beautiful recording! It is unfortunate that it is not played on a less distructive turnnable......that metal needle is a killer!

  • @CanadaPisces Read my posting "In defense of an orthophonic".

  • It stopped at 2:32. :(
