Kinect + 3D TV = Virtual Reality

This video demonstrates the powerful combination of a Microsoft Kinect and a 3D TV. The result is a system that responds to the presence of a user to create the illusion of a virtual reality joined with true reality at the plane of the screen.

This software was developed by Robert Kooima using OpenNI, and is demonstrated running on an Ubuntu Linux system. The visualization uses the Electro VR application scripting system. 3D graphics are rendered using OpenGL on an NVIDIA GTX 470

tilting your head might be a problem... however if the glasses had IR LEDS on it's sides, the eye angle could be used, and it would create an even better vr experience :)

This is pretty cool.

That being said, don't say its "3D without any 2D tricks" when infact almost all 3D display technology is just that. For as long as you are creative a 3D perception behind a 2D surface, these are all 'tricks'. I'll consider it 3D only when light is reflected at or near the space to which there is a virtual surface of a virtual object, only then will I consider it 3D without 2D tricks.

That being said, these 2D tricks seem to be getting better all the time. Great job!

Is there any chance you can comment on how you made the 3D tv render in stereo mode under ubuntu and OpenGL? I'm trying to do something similar, and I can't figure out how to make the TV display stereo images without video driver support for 3D tvs.

@domingezdelapena because i have friends on every system but before online there were really no mods and the ps2 and n64 were amazing plus they dragged out these consoles to long i MIGHT buy the next ps4/xbox if it has modifiable hardware
