@airsoftmama Indeed I do 'get it'. It just seems I 'understand' a lot more with GM cars, even down to the wiring color of headlights, tail lamps,'hot' and 'keyed' on/off ones.So owning another old one was a plus for me. And one understands the character quirks of them too right off the bat.Yes, I understand how you feel of your Caprice. And with good care, and being kept away from salt, she will go forever. I have seen the basic engine blocks in these cars going well past the 350,000 mile mark.
@spikedpunk Exactly man! you have the right idea! I am honestly hoping I can sell this car and just be happy with owning a GM. No car will ever take place of my Caprice, Christine though. She's the car I plan to hold onto until she dies...Then put a new engine in her and go another 200,000
@airsoftmama Many families are like this, growing up on one particular manufacturer, ours was no different in being a 'GM' family. We did have members with some with the older Chryslers of the 50's, 60', and '70'. I remember some of them. We even had a pretty decent '66 Ambassador that lasted forever (why I remember it, it was ancient by then!) but the GM's were always the most rugged overall, period. The Canadian Pontiacs were very popular, they held up to not rusting too bad.
. My Dad had a pontiac 6000. He absolutely loved that car...Me and my whole family have always been a GM family. My dad owned one Ford Taurus in his life, and a Toyota Camry (both company cars, and he hated both of them, nothing but problems) He always ran either Pontiac, Buick, Chevy or Oldsmobile. So for me, running a ford goes against everything I grew up around. the LTD is a nice car, don't get me wrong, but I won't be holding onto it past spring, it's just not for me.
@airsoftmama Sometimes one has to take what comes along for the time being.Have had in one way or another all three models you speak of in my life one way or another. Many poked fun at them, but the cars did as they were supposed to do for their owners reliably and without fanfare, save for rear disc brakes being fussy in the salt climates.I can honestly say this about my Tempest, it owed me nothing. The last few years around here, they have all but disappeared from the roads unfortunately.
@spikedpunk really now? I really like those older style cavaliers. I like the crown vic, but I am really just not a ford guy to be honest. I was looking at getting a lumina, corsica, 6000 but I couldnt find anything for a good amount of money, and then I found this, and it was in good shape so I just bought it.
@airsoftmama Too bad about the Eagle. Eventually we hope lazy folk get off their....Maybe some day you will get a call. A friend's brother, also a GM guy has an '89 Grand Marquis as a first ride, it still needs a few things before being roadworthy. The Cavalier RS would be a decent switch, I had an '89 Pontiac Tempest (Canadian Corsica) that got over 300,000 miles before the engine quit. It was rust that made the decision to let go. Only trouble ever with the engine? Intake gaskets at 120,000
@spikedpunk Sadly :\ the owner just was to lazy to let go...He wouldn't even clean the dust of the eagle to sell it, and I couldnt keep waiting around, poor car. But this car is alright, i'm not a ford guy, so I actually could possibly be trading it for a more fuel efficient 1989 Cavalier RS since I already have my big old caprice. but its not a bad car
@Ajps2master My all time favorite ride in history is a 1970 Dodge Challenger. But sadly, well. No chance I can afford that ;)
