This is the premier of my art song/concert aria "Sopranos Know Best," Op.78, premiered at the MSU College of Music, Music building auditorium on October 21st, 2008 on the fall semester undergrauate composers' premieres of new music concert series. The lovely and talented Elizabeth Toy sings the tongue-in-cheek 'ego-trip aria,' accompanied by maestro Neill Campbell on piano. I wrote the music and the lyrics myself, i do ocassionally dabble as a librettist.
"Sopranos Know Best"
Oh friend, are you aware,
of which is the best instrument of all?
The others, they cannot compare,
for the voice it can beat out them all!
The Violin cannot play in tune,
and no one cares 'bout the low Bassoon;
the Oboe crows and squwaks all day,
and the French Horn can barely even play!
The Flute is so high and shrill!
and the Clarinet is just there to fill!
The Trumpet I simply can't condone;
you might as well play the Saxophone!
Oh friend, for the highest wage,
only one can grace the opera stage;
I am fair of face, and my voice is strong,
out of sight in the pit they belong!
The Trombones they only gliss and slide,
the truth my friend to you I confide;
the victor clear, as you will recall,
and as one can clearly see!
It's all about me!
for I am the best of all!
(candenza)
Me, me, me, etc.
All me!
whose lovely piece I wonder?
Thank you. ^.^
