Doug Chan, Alto Saxophone
Clip 7 of 10 from Senior Recital

This was towards the end of the night and I was getting a little restless with the heat. Because of this, I added some Jazz inflections on some of my notes which is a big NO-NO!! Just thought I'd mention that before someone criticized me for it :)

Fun fact: It doesn't look like it, but it is really HOT! The air conditioning was broken so you can imagine how hot it was, especially with the lighting and roughly 100 audience members.

  • You sound amazing! My teacher just gave me this solo today to work on so I wanted to hear what it sounded like. You defiantly met my need with flying colors!

  • Thanks for the playing: I played this for my solo and ensemble contest and got a "I"!!! Again, it is an awesome piece.

  • @theuniformgurlz I am not quite sure, but at the time i looked it up it was Grade 8. But i just looked up First Concertino and it said it was a grade 8 AB selection. i have to admit i'm quite confused, but Andante & allegro took me a month or two to learn, and this has been well over 3 months and i'm only partial to the first 2 pages.

  • @JesusTheWise is Andante and Allegro a current grade 8 choice because i cant seem to find it on the syllabus ...who composed it? xx

    thanks fro advice btw :)

  • I'm playing this for my college audition. It's not too hard, but I have to play it amazing to stand any chance of getting in. :S

  • @theuniformgurlz I personally find it quite difficult... i've been taking private lessons for nearing 3 years now, and i am relatively good at saxaphone and it gives me some trouble. there are 2 cadenza's, one of which is quite hard, and it has numerous Triplets, and has two flats. you could try it out :P i recommend Andante & Allegro if you play Alto Saxaphone, that is my favorite piece, and it isnt TOO hard.

  • is this piece reasonably easy to learn?? ..im trying to choose my grade 8 pieces and this is one of them and was wondering how hard it is?? x

  • I've just started this piece. I hope I will be able to play it at least half good as you do.

  • would you please tell me what kind of a saxophone you have and I'm curious about the mouthpiece and the reed as well. So everything. :) I really like your voice. Thanks!

  • I'm digging the jazz inflections and the like! :D

    Beautiful tone! :)
