Here's a clip of Steve Howe playing "The Clap" at The Point in Cardiff Wales on 28 June 2006. He was amazing, and it was fantastic to be so close to the stage to see the man at work.

  • Interesting how the innocent posting of my Steve Howe clip has turned into a debate, which could turn nasty. I was standing right in front of the stage when I took that clip and he never said a thing. I also took a boat load of pics when I went to see him in Asia and again he was quite OK. It must depend on how he feels on the day. I respect the wishes of the artist - if they don't want photos taken (e.g. Tool, Rush) then I will oblige.

  • yes, you can tell by the fans clapping along they are a bunch of losers. Steve has to nod his head to help keep them on beat. Funny - - - I read once where Steve prefers that fans DON'T clap along to his soloes because that distracts from his ability to ad lib and provide more feeling to his music through tempo changes. True Steve Howe fans would recognize this. :-D

  • It may be true and as the filmer I didn't clap personally. However, the evening was very relaxed and the clapping in no way detracted from the brilliance of his playing.

  • Too bad the clip falls out of synch, but otherwise very nice!

  • Yeah, I've no idea why that should be. It plays perfectly well on my computer. Any ideas? I'll try and upload it again in case there was some kind of problem with the transfer.

  • I saw Yes last year here in Argentina, I was lucky to see and hear steve howe playing, because Im 15 and I dont think I'll go to better concerts in the future!

sorry for my bad english :P

  • @foolishjerk -- my mentioning billboard was just a nod to his versatility. Clearly, he made the biggest splash in his career playing progressive art rock. A Dream Theatre junkie played "Metropolis" for me and I yawned. Impressive arpeggios, I guess. I countered with "Sound Chaser". He chose to discontinue the contest.

  • @quirkasaurus You're an idiot. This song's called "The Clap". That's the point.

  • The clap or just Clap ?

  • @wraxtor01 Join the Steve Howe Appreciation Society run by Pam Bay, its online & totally free. Steve plays a gig for them once a year at the Fitzwilliam Centre, Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire. Tickets limited to a couple of hundred, its an intimate gig where he interacts with the audiance, he signs albums etc.. afterwards and you can meet him. He is not at all awkward & is very down to earth & has a good sense of humour.

  • I agree

  • I have always loved this peice. i tried to learn it but it was too hard. I did learn "mood for a day" (another great piece) Steve is probably the reason I ever tried to play guitar. I'll never be remotly as good as him. but He will always be my inspiration.

  • i was there
