@djlobb If you did not listed for what Derek said, then download the brochure and read for yourself. The camcorder shoots either in MOV or in MP4, and the latter can be easily converted to MXF with free Sony software. Vegas 8 works fine with MXF, Vegas 9 and 10 can edit MP4 natively, no conversion needed.

@vizeds Currently at B&H (New York, U.S.A) the HVR-A1U costs $2.1K, the GY-HM100U costs $2.8K. For the extra $700 you get tapeless recording onto cheap media, higher bitrate than HDV, 50Hz/60hz capability right out of the box and better manual focusing tools. Or you can get one from eBay for around $2K in great condition.

@vizeds The Sony is from the dark ages uses tape no comparison

The cameras are the same price (both are around $3400. Why do you say it is twice the price as the Sony A1U?
-
It is not twice as a good as the Sony A1U cam that I use for Video Journalism reporting. But it is TWICE THE PRICE! Hope to see more contenders with these features as the native FCP is nice and also the 3 CCD. Other than those - nothing else improves on the A1U for light HD pro cam.

A really cool camera, but it costs 3000 € bisch I find too expensive to buy because, and the Panasonic AG-HMC151 is good to (3200 €).
Could you maybe even more times a video cam to do what it can and how it looks?
-
It comes with a wireless remote I see.

Is there any way you can hook up a wired remote such as a varizoom? I like to be able to control the camera (at least zoom and start stop) from a tripod with out touching the camera body.
i'm having problems downloading the images. i just get nonsense text. is there a problem?
