The Alberta Liberals sent out this video on September 14, 2009, the day of the Calgary Glenmore byelection. Liberal MLA Kent Hehr is the guy on the right; Wildrose Alliance candidate Paul Hinman is on the left.
Kent talks about rules, yet he did break the signage rules (Section 134) on his campaign last time. The problem is that our old Cheif Electoral Officer didn't understand the elections act in a sufficient manner to enforce it.
I also lived across from Kent's office. Both he and his volunteers were continually violating the parking bylaws. The volunteers were continually plugging up the loading zone in front of our condo, and Kent would park his van partially across the crosswalk.
This is just another prime example of the sleezy tactics employed by the Alberta Wildrose Alliance Party! Do they really think they can pull the wool over the eyes of Alberta's citizens???
I agree with Kent hehr- the rules need to be tightened by Elections Alberta. Having him (Hindman) stand there and introduce himself and naming his party mere seconds before people got to the voting booth is even more influential than having election signs on voting sites (which is banned under current rules).
Voting sites and the adjacent property should be a sanctuary that is totally free of any signs, candidates, flyers...let's have some common sense people!
