Overview and demonstration of my SSTC Setup playing the Monkey Island theme. The RF is generated with a Class-E MOSFET stage with controllable Frequency.
The sound is modulated on the gate signal of the MOSFET via PWM. The sound is then emitted by the arc itself. Excitation and PWM Frequencies are set with DDS generators controlled via a Microcontroller board with USB interface. The sound comes directly from the soundcard of the PC. All the Hardware and the Software is (c) by me ;-)

  • Is it dangerous if you accidentally touch it?

  • @Khazar01 it burns the skin as if touching a candle flame.. but it doesn't kill you.

  • How much ozone does this apparatus generate?

  • @OlDoinyo I don't have a mass spectrometer at home, but my nose tells me there is some ozone. You can smell it at quite low concentrations though.

  • Isnt that the guy from lost?

  • MONKEY ISLAND!! sweeeeet

Much clearer/nicer sound than other modulated 'musical' teslas I've seen, i think due mostly to loud, large and eratic sparks? Be interested to see the voltage wound up :)

Great video mate, very helpful! Much respect for building it from the ground up, software and all.

  • @Khazar01 It will leave 0.3 mm burn in diameter, frequence here can reach few MHz, there is just no time for current to flow across your body, it reverses or interrupts. I'm pretty like to touch the streamer, plasma's temperature here can reach 3000+ C, it can melt tungsten spiral from the light bulb, but streames is thin, and there will almost will be nothing after fast caching and leaving you hand out of dangerous zone. To avoid the burns, it will be better to have wet hands/

  • i wish i had the ability and resources to build one of these can you get bass from it?

  • I'm glad someone else said "mad scientist" so I don't have to! Truly mad and brilliant.
