Profoundly deaf since birth, Amanprit relied on hearing aids and lip-reading for all communication until the age of 21.
Last year Amanprit was the first UK winner of the Cochlear Graeme Clark Scholarship Award, an award open to Cochlear implant recipients around the world which was set up to support them financially in their further education. Amanprit was awarded £6,000 to continue her BSc degree in Geography with Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Birmingham.
This short documentary gives an insight into cochlear implants from the recipient's viewpoint.

A great story and a fascinating and attractive girl.
Thanks for sharing and I'm so glad that the implant is working well.
I'm not sure why people are so negative about them as if nothing the happy users say is relevant.

Carl Schroeder discusses the human brain that is full of neurons--the hundred billion or so information-processing cells that are not replaced at all. A deaf infant is born with virtually all the neurons he or she will ever have as a deaf individual.

I wonder how she got new batteries for her hearing aids when she was in the out of the way places - and why she did not ask her audiologist for something that may have helped her at university, for example MicroLink, or that which would go with her her hearing aids. She could also asked for notetakers at university, It is good to see how well she is doing, but things could have been made easier before she got her implant.
