  • Howe is erratic on record (though for the uninitiated, Giant Sand's Swerve is a decent starting place) but he can be transcendent live. I heard an amazing song called Sattelite at midnight with 20 or so other patrons somewhere in NYC and it was one of the most beautiful performances that I can recall. I still have to finish the interview, but I'm heartened to hear him talking about the realities of life on the road: familial responsibilities and the consequences of choices.

  • A great video with a wonderfully creative mind. The Blurry Blue Mountain album is great.

  • Re: we pick the soundtracks of our life. On a whim, I bought Purge+Slouch @ waterloo in Austin in '94 at a time when people still paid for music and had to live with the consequences. First thought: what the fuck?

I'd never heard such half-assed, nationally distributed music in my life, but guess that's what made it so charming and "revolutionary" to me (eventually). A true "grower."

Anyway, thanks for posting... actually my first time hearing a Howe interview. Glad it was "in-depth."

  • that was great
