Ann F. Baum Lecture - Jacob S. Hacker, Ph.D., the Stanley B. Resor Professor of Political Science at Yale University. The lecture is on "Health Care, Retirement, and the New Economic Landscape for Older Americans" in the Max L. Rowe Auditorium. The recent economic downturn has cast in stark relief the risks associated with retirement and health care for older Americans. Yet even before the downturn, the economic landscape was shifting in ways that concentrated more risk and responsibility on Americans planning for retirement and health care in old age. This lecture will discuss this shift and how it has changed the opportunities and risks for retirement planning, focusing in particular on the special issues raised for working- and middle-class Americans. It will then present ideas for improving retirement and health security for older Americans.
