  • p.s. Thank you for the tutorial - even though I didn't get any stretch in my project I am most grateful to you for putting up this video. I have now learned how to knit using both hands and using a weave when need be.

  • @ZoeUnaVideo I haven't used it for anything that needed to be stretchy & I'll bet if I did I would get the same result you did. I would guess stranded color work would be a better method to get some stretch for a sock; even then that would be limited to the length of the float so I suppose each float should be a little looser but not so loose you get your toes stuck in them when putting on a sock. (swatch)

Thanks for viewing and commenting! I'm glad it helped you learn to knit with 2 colors.

  • what is that blue string? it looks like dental floss

  • LOL, yes it is dental tape. It's my lifeline because I'll eventually mess up somewhere and have to rip back to the floss. Then all I have to do is pick up those stitches from the floss.

  • I loved your explanation of the Pretend stitch.. thanx alot

  • Thanks, but I can't take really take the credit since I learned it that way from a video at philosopherswool dot com. Glad it was helpful of course!

  • Thanks for your response. I did it with just the floats first and it didn't look right to me seeing the float travel from one dpn to the other - so I tried this method, weaving in every other stitch. I will now attempt it with leaving loose(ish) floats, but weaving in the 5 stitch of the same color (so the float won't be too long) and before switching to next dpn. Wish me luck, cause I really want to get this pattern done.

  • I used this method making a sock. After the ribbing I used the two colors with the weaving technique and found the sock had absolutely no stretch at the woven part.

  • this is a great tutorial!

I knew how to weave the yarn through but not without having to untangle the yarn every so often. this method is so awesome :D

  • Even though you didn't "invent" the pretend stitch or the weaving stitch, your explanation and video are very helpful to see them in action. I'm doing my first-ever fair isle project (felted cat basket) now thanks to your instructions.
