After watch this video:

"Classic speech synthesis tape":
http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=aFQOYBNAMHg

then I remembered the classic speech synthesis of the AMIGA 500 and the WOPR. After some searching on the web, I founded the SAM software. SAM is a speech synthesizer launched circa 1982 by a company called "Don´t Ask Computer Software". Without extra gear, only with the SID, you can let the C64 speak some words.

There´s some other speech programs, like Magic Voice, the Currah but both requires extra hardware for the speech.

  • the woodgrain adds an extra essence to the video :) I cannot compute on old computers without proximity to woodgrain, shag carpet, or orange plastic eames chairs.

  • @KawaiFS630

But the cake is a lie.

  • das boot voice?

  • @cheezpuff86 So far I remember, the SoundBlaster speech synth tested for the presence of the original ISA card and won't run unless you can emulate it. It also contained 4MB(?) of phoneme samples, so the timbre was not as fully synthetic as Amiga or C64 speech.

In OPL3 spects stands that certain FM waveforms were intended for speech synthesis mode. Has anybody ever found a program that made use of it for a speech synth?

    And a toast.

    Also a... cake.
