Thanks so much for the post. My parents were divorced when I was 8 and this song was popular. My Mother used to sing it and I hadn't heard the lyrics in a long, long time. Well, the story has a happy ending...they remarried after five years of being divorced and it got it right for the next 25 years.

I have a theory that maybe he is so completely as a man singing and creating the way he did, so utterly open, so vulnerable and true so sweet.... that the culture was just a little uncomfortable with it.
