Program notes:
"So It Goes... was composed between September and November of 2010 as a gift to Steven Terrill. Steven and I have been friends for years now, and the piece serves to celebrate him. The music itself mirrors many of his personal qualities. He is a very zany human being, well endowed with a brilliant, dark, sense of humor. Steven also plays percussion and loves fun, groovy music. I made it a point to add many fun and interesting rhythms to please his tastes, as well as a few moments with throbbing disco beats in the percussion (ala composer Thomas Adès). The title was taken from a motive in Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s novel Slaughter House V. As much as the music reminds me of Steven, Steven himself reminds me of Vonnegut's writing. From fanfares to a percussion soli, and from beauty to bombast, So It Goes...has everything my friend likes in a piece of music."
