Dammit, the West just overspent and under produced. I blame feminism. Single men do not buy into 20 year mortgages they can't afford. Only married women pressure their low income husbands to buy overpriced houses.

@thefrockdoctrine It's simply logic. Rational single men do not get into mortgages for houses they can't afford. Married men will get pressured to get a stressful mortgage because their wives want it. Single men on a whole do not get into huge mortgages for big houses. Lenders simply took advantage of this cultural quirk of ours (American men are pussies generally).Too much borrowing and not enough income.

@jonson37 In chinese there is a saying "if you are going to depend on someone, let it be yourself". We need to get our act together. In China i would be an average, possibly even lazy student but in the UK i was near the top of my class. That german ethic is commenable and i think Brits are getting a shock back to reality. It could be worse, we could be like Greece.
