  • although anger is pumping through my veins, i'm going to relay a calm message to you about autism as i have it. now autism is good and bad just like your average person on the streets. we have dreams of a better tomorrow, talk to one another, say hello how are you. now you tell me now why autism should be seen as a disease when so many on the spectrum have inherited excellent traits such as perseverance and anticipation.

  • @ibidydo I realize that autism is not a disease. My brother, as well as many others in my life, have autism, and each of these individuals have beautiful gifts that are appreciated and revered amongst everyone who knows them. I have more respect for those in my life on the spectrum than anyone else I know.

  • Thank you for bringing awareness to autism! I fully support families with autism, but after all I have read, Autism Speaks leaves me really uneasy.

Their primary goal is to research genetics to "eradicate autism" = abortion

Would I have been aborted? my family?

I have so much to say on this but..

    Please research it yourself.

  • @Felicityhelix Thank you so much for this article!

  • I have Asperger's, but I dont really understand why this organisation is good? Are they looking for a cure? Cause it's not a disease, it's a way of thinking that is "different" and "alien" to most "normal' people and does not need curing.

  • @ParaKimmyMore They are mainly looking for the best way to support those who need support, and to advocate for those who cannot advocate for themselves.

  • @SilverSynchro7 in that case i hope you can accept that autistic people don't need to be cured and they aren't all bad

  • Great video. It really shows that you both personally and professionally know your stuff, and chose a great organization to bring some attention to. DFTBA! Alsothis: <3

  • Felicityhelix beat me to it, but this is what I was going to say. Please do your research and donate to organizations that actually have autistic people within their ranks, such as The Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN).

  • Article below has a really great point - supporting genetic research into autism specifically is futile really because we havent done enough regular research into brains yet. Added to that, Autism Speaks puts negative stigma on ASD people through their ad campaigns.

What do you think about it?

Please support Autistic Self-Advocacy Network and the Dan Marino Foundation instead.
