The largest ever Porsche 968 event in the UK (and Europe?), to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the car's arrival in the UK. The proud owners of 66 Porsche 968s parade round the Silverstone Circuit, resisting the urge to put their foot down...

  • the very best video, top porsche 968

  • Thanks! Very nice of you to say so!

  • I have has both the 951 and 968. Made the mistake of owning the 968 with Tiptronic. I was bummed until I sold it and bought a highly modded 930. 968 is more exterior than 951, but almost identical interiors other than seats. I felt the 951 handles considerably better. Both coil over both lowered same tires etc.

  • You will probably find quite a few 968 CS owners who would disagree with you! I've not driven a 951 so I can't comment from personal experience. But it does depend a lot on the suspension setup. Which coilovers? Does the 951 have a LSD? Lots of variables there...

  • Yes they carry such good corner speed in CS form. You get addicted to the boost though. I've got 2 951s and half an S2. Building a track car out of one of the 951s and the other is good for 330bhp at only 9psi anyway. It should hit 500bhp at 18-22 psi and the track car will dwarf that. However there is a school of thought that the 968 chassis is superior to the 944, but I'm not sure about that. My friend who has both seems to think so. I've not driven a 968 to be able to comment.

  • There isn't that much difference - and once you've modded it with coilovers etc then it's what you've made of it. The most significant factor, other than the immediacy of the N/A engine, is actually the looks. The 944 is very much associated with the 1980s, but the 968 still looks relatively modern, and they're quite rare so only Porsche lovers actually know what they are. Still fancy a 951 sometimes, though, for the increased (and cheaper) engine modding potential.

  • Yeah, I know guys who have supercharged and turbocharged them, but it's expensive. You could pretty much get a 996 these days for the price of a 968 plus extreme engine modification. The 968 is all about chassis anyway. It may not be the quickest car to get up to speed, but boy can it stay up there once it has, whatever the curves!

  • Right. That makes sense. It actually looked ok in a visual sense and I've seen plenty of in car 968 footage so may as well make it different. Most 968 in car is a bit boring anyway as the engine note just drones on and without forced induction they just go around and around. Good car that they are. I have a friend who is putting a GT35 on his. Should make a difference!
