This Aeolian style D Orchestrelle was first sold in the spring of 1900. The 58-note player instrument is, in reality, a player reed organ. It is not of the class of the higher quality, and much larger, Solo Orchestrelle units which used pressure on the reeds rather than vacuum as in this style D.

A fun feature of these early player instruments are the ragtime/cake walk rolls. Here a two-step cake walk from around 1900 is Aeolian Grand roll 20372

  • I have an Aeolian Model 1250 that was built in 1888. I'm planning to rebuild it. Hope mine sounds this good when finished. I understand they are hard to find rolls for. Mine is a 46 note player.

  • @ChucklesKeys The 46 note rolls may well be harder to find. Don't know. There are rolls being made for the owners of these 58 note instruments. This instrument is, more properly, a vacuum reed organ. The larger Aeolian instruments use a pressure system and have a better sound. Thinking of 46 note rolls, these must be similar to the Wilcox and White player reed organ rolls?

  • hurrah! great!

  • (And yes, there is an ornate facade that goes across the organ. Since the keys do not move

as in a player piano, at least there is something to watch with the swell shades and stop actions moving.)

  • My Aeolian is also a "suction" reed organ player. I have been told that the 46 note rolls are very rare. I'm hoping that I can get my hands on some of them.

  • I love this cakewalk! I have it on a 65 note Aeolian roll

  • Just love that!

I was going to post a guitar version this week but now I gotta' delay it while I transcribe them last 2 sections.
