This Windows XP TIP shows you how to create a shortcut which quickly shuts down or can restart your PC.

For a Restart Shortcut
shutdown.exe -r
For a Shutdown Shortcut
shutdown.exe -s
Additional Options
-t xx (used for time delay)
-c "Enter a message to display"
-l (used to logoff the current user)

Another thing you can use it for, if you are downloading a file or something but you need to go out, and you don't want to leave your computer running until you get back, just go to Google and type "90 minutes in seconds" (if that's how long it will take for the file to download) and then instead of "-s -t 5" you can put (in this case) "-s -t 5400" so that it will shut down after an hour and a half so the file will have time to download AND the computer won't be left running.
