At this time GFG was in its fourth series, and the first to feature contestants from eastern Europe, as Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary were among the competing nations. However, one episode was cancelled when Margaret Thatcher resigned, before events in Kuwait messed up the schedules.
Also at this time, the COW had less than six weeks left on air, before the 'virtual globe' came in.
