I have to say firstly that this is supposed to be accompanied by very dramatic piano music. You don't get the feeling of the song without it.... And I apologize for my poor singing skills in this video... I can assure you that I don't normally sing this way, and didn't sound like this in real life that night- I wouldn't have acted so haughty at the end if I had no talent, believe me, I'm very shy.
Um, I haven't actually watched it through, only listened due to my terrible shyness, but basically at my Deutsche Sprachschule graduation they asked me to sing, in this horrible little room with terrible acoustics, and without piano accompaniment. Because this is one of my favorite songs of all time(yes, I usually sound MUCH better singing it, like it was made for me), I had to upload this video, because it's the only one I still have of me singing, and my stupid computer finally started being able to recognize and play videos from my amazing digital camera. They didn't let me know ahead of time that I would have to sing for everyone at the graduation either, so I was unprepared, hence the lost look on my face in some parts, and the shaking in my voice.
The song is "Der Linderbaum", from the song set called Die Winterreise, by Franz Schubert. Normally sung by men, the songs were based on a series of poems by Wilhelm Muller, and this song basically talks about a tree that the man and his lover used to spend time under, and that as he walks by it now, calls to him, saying he would find rest under...eternal rest, basically beckoning him to commit suicide.
Sorry for the horrible singing here, hopefully I can get a better recording of myself soon, because I really don't sound this bad.
Am brunnen vor dem Tore,
da steht ein Lindenbaum,
Ich traumt in seinem schatten,
so manchen sussen Traum
Ich schnitt in seine Rinde,
so manches liebe Wort,
es zog in Freud und Leide
zu ihm mich immer fort.
Ich musst auch heute wandern
vorbei in tiefer Nacht.
Da hab ich noch im Dunkeln,
die Augen zugemacht.
Und seine Zweige rauschten,
als riefen sie mir zu,
komm her zu mir Geselle,
hier find'st du deine Ruh.
Die kalten Winde bliesen,
mir grad ins Angesicht,
der Hut flog mir vom Kopfe,
Ich wendete mich nicht.
Nun bin ich manche Stunde,
entfernt von jenem Ort.
Und immer hor ich's rauschen,
du fandest Ruhe dort.
Nun bin ich manche Stunde,
entfernt von jenem Ort.
Und immer hor ich's rauchen,
du fandest Ruhe dort,
du fandest Ruhe dort!
yes - horrible

@dutchbaritone08 : Well thank you. I mean...at least someone had th guts to tell me it sucked, like I thought it did, instead of trying to placate me by saying it's wonderful. So, your honesty actually means a lot, even though you hate how I sing, lol.

Lol... I actually wanted to, after I saw 2 girls singing in this year's Otakon Masq.... But I mean, I can't just sing anything, it would have to make sense with anime, right? And I can't figure out what I could sing... I don't think any animes are based in Germany, or even that any animes use classical vocal music. :(
..If you have an idea for a song though, I'd love to do this at a con.

Omg, thank you!!! :)
I don't think I'm good enough to be a professional singer though. My voice doesn't carry well or something, otherwise I totally would. But thank you so much!!!
