This is a first year northern goshawk. The bird just flew into some nets, was given a federal band and is about to be released into the wild.

Most hawks are very quiet during the banding process. Goshawks, give an loud annoying shriek from the moment they are in the nets to the moment of release.

Be grateful this is only 5 seconds long.

  • Because it's a bird.

  • yams801: In the video description, she says this: "Most hawks are very quiet during the banding process. Goshawks, give an loud annoying shriek from the moment they are in the nets to the moment of release."

Having seen videos of goshawks catching and eating magpies and hearing magpies make similar shrieks, I'm struck by the irony that goshawks would do the same thing when they get caught by falconers!

  • Sounds like a cross between my sister and a squeaky dog toy.

  • It isn't 0:06 seconds. It's 0:05, but 0:05 is missing. It jumps straight from 0:04 to 0:06.
