Britain has revoked the press license of Iran-based English language broadcaster Press TV, accusing it of violating press regulations. But some say the decision was really motivated by British geopolitical interests.

The Office of Communications (Ofcom), a government-approved watchdog overseeing broadcasting and telecommunications in the UK, says the channel does not control its content.

Phil Rees, a UK-based media analyst and author talks to RT suggesting that the driving force behind the decision is geopolitics.

  • I happen to be aware that, during recent troubles in Kashmir, PressTV was jammed by the Indian authorities. This tells us something about PressTV.

As to British freedom vs. Indian freedom, I'm sure Indian television stations are regulated, just like UK ones.

PressTV will be back - and are still popular, through the internet.

But I welcome any self-inflicted setback for them, they're 'alternative' because they are the propoganda of a repressive government with a loony ideology.

  • Maybe now British moralizers should learn about freedom from India. India allows Pakistani news channels to broadcast all over India (except Kashmir). In fact, at this moment, Pakistani state TV is allowed even in Kashmir!! And no, we dont need editorial control to rest in India or anythin like that... Pakistan state TV is allowed to broadcast DIRECTLY from Islamabad into Kashmir and all of India.

Yes, ours isnt perfect. But at least, its better than your blanket bans.

  • @ValukaX True, money can sometimes be evil. The word freedom is just that a word, its true meanning is as illusive as it is deceptive. Cheers my friend

  • @dec2034 - Banning PressTV has fuck-all to do with freedom. Plenty more anti-establishment TV out there - it was more to do with the fact that PressTV has shown itself time and time again to be a nasty organisation. Filming and broadcasting footage of a man being tortured and forced to speak propaganda by the Iranian regime, for instance (google Maziar Bahari)

  • @ValukaX Tossa, please...you UK Useful Idiots are weak and scrawny, and would be easily dealt with.

  • @madmanjshum What happened to freedom is the question, countries indebted to the world bank which will take 1000 lifetimes or more to repay, all indebted to zion

  • @Y0UT00B3R1 mass protest must be organised if they fuk with Russia today

  • What happened to freedom of the press??????

  • @Jakguide Youtube will probably won't let me post. We Americans always thought that the U.K. had a much better democracy that the U.S. The truth is that the U.S. is now a banana republic. Police state, and we will eventually regain our constitutional rights! Our media has blacked out Ron Paul, botched recent elections, and Obama has signed a law that any American can be jailed indefinately without trial. The public here really doesn't even know what the Constitution is, doesn't care.
