If your e-filed tax return was rejected with the "Recovery Rebate Credit" message, watch this video to find out what to do.

The Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) was the amount of money that you received last year for the economic stimulus payment. You must enter the exact amount you received into TurboTax. To find that amount, please visit www.irs.gov and search for "stimulus payment." Once you find the exact amount you received from the government, enter it into TurboTax and resubmit your tax return.

  • so it says $600 for most people. now what does turbo tax do with that number? does it add to income amount or what? you are making tit more confusing. why isn't it explained while you are doing the return? why do you need a youtube video?

  • Hi WakeForestNeighbor! This is Lee from TurboTax. TurboTax does correctly handle the calculation of the Recovery Rebate credit. The calculation is based on the amount you entered as the stimulus payment already received. If that amount does not match what the IRS says you received, you will get an IRS letter asking for dollars back.

  • ok Turbo Tax, fess up. The question asked by TT is "Did the IRS issue you a rebate last year?" I answered yes, however TT mistakenly added the amount onto line 70 of my 1040 form as a credit reducing my tax payment. And low and behold many months later the IRS sends me a letter wanting the amount credited back in the Treasury. After using TT for over 5 years, I am uncertain if I will use it again next year.

  • Nice video. A little late though. 25% of filers messed this up according the IRS. I bet near 100% were Turbo Tax users. I don't understand what happened here. Usually Turbo Tax gets it right. I lost my faith in this program. Why wasn't this presented correctly in the program? I would like my money back. I didn't have a good experience this year with Turbo Tax.

  • do your homework before you try and bash a programming GIANT like INTUIT.

  • lol it would be nice if i got a refund for just being me! Truth of the matter is that nothing is jacked up with the program, its just built to do that because the feds didnt pay everyone the stimulus. So in essence Turbo Tax is doing us a favor but people are soooo stupid they cant wrap there brains around it.

  • actually if you folks paid any attention you would see that after you enter personal info into the program it starts to give a refund amount without entering income info...This is built into the program to help people recover the stimulus that did not receive it so dont blame the program idiot

  • Let's face it. This happened because of a problems with the TurboTax software interface. This needed to be made more clear to users in the questionnaire process. Adequate user testing could have uncovered the problem. Even after it was first discovered, couldn't the software have been modified to place emphasis on this question and the ramifications of not answering it correctly?
