Thanks for that - wroked 1st time. I tried to do this from written instructions but just couldn't get it to work.
15000 miles is far too long to leave it. I change the oil every six thousand miles for my 2001 525i

Hi,
I tried this and when I get to the test 1 instead of showing reset it flashes to my total miles and trip miles along with temp. Any ideas as to why reset doesn't pop up?
Thanks!

Hey, when I try this, it goes to the test 1 but then instead of reset goes between the test 1 and my total miles&trip miles along with the temp. Any ideas?
Thanks

I messed around and couldn't get this to work for a long time. I discovered that I was turning the key too far into position 2. To get this to work, just barely turn the key and try it..l the blower motor shouldn't be on in position 1.

So 15,525 means it doesnt need an oil change till then? I bought the car about 6 months ago and when I got it, it was around 3,000. I changed it around -4k. This possibly means my car went to around 20k without an oil change?

@Cash4Faysh Or that the person just didn't reset the reading. How did the oil filter look like when you took it out?

Awesome, awesome, totally awesome.
I just did it on my E39 2001 and saved myself $40 and a trip to the dealership.
If yours is a E39, just follow the steps and enjoy.
The contents on my E39 display varied slightly and it took longer between steps.
But it worked!
