Queensland Railways sole surviving Garratt is shown on a Sunsteam Tour to Toowoomba on 15 March 1997. Let's hope one day that we will see her again ply Queensland's rails (maybe in time for the QR 150th celebrations!).

  • God I miss the Garratt!

The sound of it working hard at Holmes is just amazing :D

  • @VulcanBB18 You and me both, that Holmes shot would have to be my favourite. Such a shame that it is just left to slowly die at IWRM. You would think that given the 150th Anniversary of QR coming up, it would make a worthy project.

  • @trw1089 there is a rumor going around that as soon as No.3 is out of the way the BG is to be returned to steam for 2015. I have been hearing this from a number of staff at QR Heritage fleet and I hope that there is truth in it.

  • @RedtailFox1 Hope so, it would be so good to see it running again. Its one of the few locos I haven't got any decent sound recordings of and it is such a big drawcard for tours. We ran several 15 coach trains with it, in this vid you can see two Kuranda cars that were "borrowed" so we could have a full load.

  • Thanks Paul. Yes, they were good times. This was one of the few occasions when I wasn't working as Train Manager or Passenger Attendant so chased the train instead.

  • heard a rumor from pretty high up in the chain at Ipswich. They say expect her back in 2015 at a conservative estimate

  • Thanks mr.paul. In INDIA WE DON'T KNOW ABOUT GARRATT. WE HAD ONLY IP'S .

  • great vid mate, seeing this train in full flow is truly a sight to behold. i hope to hell this train is restored back to running condition because its sad seeing her sit at ipswich slowly rusting away

  • I remember the train being referred to as "The Mountaineer" exciting times back then. Great vid too.
