An Irish road safety film from the 1970s. Presented here in two parts.

Taken from an old 16mm print. Part of the opening titles were reconstructed as they were missing from the print.

  • I told many Americans the reason 4 left driving and they all said it makes sense. Before cars horse carriages drove left side for the simple reason 95% of people are right handed and to avoid whip catching in over hanging trees they kept to left. So cars had to follow. Until The US came along and.......

  • @Bcolly

never never never say never again... haha just like the movie. The left side driving is as old and riduclous as kids working in factories.

  • @indyfan22k That would be near impossible due to the amount of traffic on the roads now compared to the 1960's and would cost billions of euros and considering the current plight of this generation, it wont happen. Even the Americans wouldnt be able to afford such a transition if they had to do so.

  • @Bcolly They ought to do with Sweden did in the mid 1960s . a Big Switch to the Right side.

  • @indyfan22k Its got nothing to do with independence from the Brits since all of the UK drives on the left too. Along, with Australia, India, Africa, and lots of Asia. Most old British colonies drive on the left and it dates back to when people travelled by horse. Centuries ago it was the most sensible option to travel on the left with your horse because if you got into a fight or a violent situation, you would have ur right hand free to grab your sword. Most people are right handed..

  • @mintysilver I remember that. A rabies advert. Dog goes hanging out with his buddys down the field and tears open a few sheep and comes back in, lies down in front of the fire happy as a pig in shit. Think he even winks at the end! "Keep your dog under control, who knows he might be a killer" Freaky as fuck. They used put it on at night. You'd go off to bed traumatised! Impossible to find that id say.

  • Can anyone remember the animated information thing called something like 'do you know where your dog is?'...the dog basically goes out of a suburban house and within minutes is running with a pack of other dogs and then is in a field killing sheep with blood running down his jaws!!! I've searched for it here but I might be calling it the wrong thing...any help out there???

  • I'm an American from Irish decent, can somebody please explain to me why the Irish drive on the left side of the road when they have been independent since 1921 ?

  • 2:56. Is that John Saxon???

  • I can remember that, I think it was a nun shouting. It still gives me the creeps to this day.
