I still eat them too but not as much as I would like lol mostly because I can only find them in my yard! or (oxalis acid)

Used to eat a ton of them when I was a kid.

Here in the Appalachian mountains the "old timers" used it to treat mild cases of indigestian. But I have alwas been warned to go easy with it. Too much can cause problems if your not accustomed to it.

all most looks like what we used to call sourgrass when I was a kid but yours only has one big triple leaf ours has multiple small leaves kind a looks like a vine or a bush type clover . SOUR but we liked to eat them !

We have this in north america too. It's from the genus Oxalis, and there is another sorrel (sheepsorrel, you've got that in britain too, I believe) which is of the Rumex genus, though they're both sorrels.
is it the same as clovers?

No, Clovers is a different plant, similar in appearance.

could you eat a lot of it in one go? or would it give you the runs?

I have heard it said that really you should really only eat a handful of any wild-edible like this due to certain acids and stuff that they contain and your stomach might not be used to it.
