@usmcmiami. It appeasrs I just wrote what you've already stated. LOL.

Turns out his explanation is of sight picture is only good for those who have adjust thier sights so that when aiming directly at the 6 o'clock position they'll hit dead center of the target, This was done because usually the bullseye was dark. So it was easier to see your sight picture against a lighter background than the bullseye

@pjanak You noticed exactly what I did. Marine Corps marksmanship instructors taught us to cut the sight picture in half horizontally with the front sight post.
-
@USMCMIAMI Your instructors had it right - the center of the top edge of the front sight is where the weapon (rifle or pistol) should put the rounds. The hold he's showing here is know as a 'six o'clock hold' that was originally used by bullseye/target shooters at the 25 yard NRA slow-fire pistol matches. It has no application in any other type of shooting since it makes it very difficult to place a round with any degree of precision.

They do say that, believe it or not. I'm staring at an instructor's poster right now depicting this very principle.

Explain the logic behind your explaination of sight picture. An apple on top off the table makes no sense. You would either graze or miss the apple's bottom. A gun site is already designed to work with the recoil of a gun so where the sight is located is where the round will go.

Now that....I like.

I completely agree. I have nver in my 43 years heard anyone say what he said. The NRA doesn't even say that I don't think.

We were taught on PI that in sight picture, the top edge of the front sight post cuts the taget in half horizontally. Nice video though. It's amazing how few people know marksmanship basics.

Whatever it was, it happened and no one else ever told me otherwise. Still shot decent by applying the fundamentals though(one point away from getting Rifle Expert, and I got a pepsi from my Senior Drill Instructor for getting a "possible" on the rapid fire). The BCG's they gave me were the wrong prescription for my eyes, also (that got fixed later), so maybe I would have done much better if I had the right eyeglasses and if I would have shot from my dominant eye....
Thank you man. This vid helped me alot a year ago when I bought my first gun, and now I use it to teach new shooters the basics.
The way you explain things comes across really simple to new shooters, it helped me alot when I was green, and now, for the same reason, I show this vid to rookie shooters because I know it will help them like it helped me.
Keep up the good work!

Should I keep both eyes open or my one dominate eye?

If you're having trouble siting the pistol at first, it may be a good idea to start with the non-dominant eye closed to get you used to siting with the dominant eye. And that works great for shooting paper. You need to, over time, get used to siting the pistol with your dominant eye and keep both eyes open. In a defensive encounter you'll already be suffering from tunnel vision because of stress, you don't want to further restrict your field of vision by closing an eye.
