@sh97 my strips dont break easily and they are homemade, i didnt use this tutorial but this is how I do it and its perfectly easy and looks great.

Why not make the pattern before putting it on the pie and avoid getting sticky?

your strips are WAY to thick, as you said half an inch you made it over an inch. that just makes the pie look ugly.

She is doing it the hard way. I wonder how many lattice tops she's actually done. Furthermore, if you're working with a homemade piecrust whiich tends to be more delicate, you can't handle the strips that much before they break. The fact that she starts to pinch the lattice strips into the rim BEFORE she starts weaving them the hard way shows lack of experience.
