How is the surf fishing at night? If you are using live bait instead of plugging, what is the best bait? Please provide me with your email so we can keep in touch because I wanna make sure I plan this thing right.

Surf fishing at night is great specially during the period I mentioned since the school of baitfish tend to seek shelter very near the shore. Eel is still the best bait to use if you are after the big cows. However, Needlefish, surftsters, darters, and danny wooden plugs works well too specially in light to windy conditions. I rely sometimes on my Rapala SXR 14 (cost less). Dark colors for night fishing and bright colors before day breaks. Mackerel is my favorite color pattern anytime of day.

Albatross Motel caters to fishermen in Montauk w/ discounts. Take Southwest to JFK, take airtrain to Jamaica and get the LIRR, get off at Southampton and pick up your car (Enterprise) then drive about 45 mins. Best time is 3rd week of Oct to1st wk of Nov.Bring waders and korkers for safety. Wooden plugs and plastics plus bucktails are good. Sealed drag system is the way to go like Van Staal. Sundown and beofore sunlight is the best time of day to catch big ones. Bring camera too. Good luck.
