This a great static shooting assessment that we use to maintain fast and efficient weapons handling combined with speed and accuracy.

Jason is the Director of Training at RB1 and the senior firearms and tactics instructor.

It takes a while to get the hang of it. Try breaking the stages down and training them individually until you are happy with each one. The run the drill.

All CQB and internal room combat is conducted with helmet on. By demonstrating that these drills can be done wearing assault equipment gives students a warm and fuzzy that it can be done and is not just a competition drill.

Typically we will teach to shoot from retention when at contact distances. That will be between 0-2 meters. The potential to engage in a hands on struggle is high inside this range and there may not be time to acquire sight picture, but due to the proximity to target, hit probability remains high and is an acceptable technique. - JF

Thats the concept as it was explained to me. If the best of the best used the technique then there was a reason for it. I dont know what else to tell you.

I agree with shooting from the hip if the situation calls for it but the guy I originally questioned just made it seem like you would automatically start firing before the gun was even level with the opponentas if the bullets were going to be hitting the ground first as you continued to pull up firing eventually hitting the opponent.

I personally am useless with a handgun, its probably just an outdated technique that potentially could have saved my life in that one situation had he really wanted to kill me. The concept of even using that technique scares the crap out of me. For a novice like me,shooting from the hip isnt really accurate either. Bet you Jason Falla could shoot a tick off a babboons bum at 100 meters from the hip though. Cheers!

My father used to train with a wieght simulating drawing from the holster in a vertical sweep, creating muscle memory, this was a technique utilised in the early eighties. I myself was trained to shoot from the hip. In my situation using the first round would have caused the idiot to initialy flinch or hesitate giving me an added millisecond to put a bullet in him. These people expend thousands of rounds a year perfecting their skills. My father beat two Olympic pistol shootists with a 1911.

What I think would be more effective is shooting exactly from the hip.My worry is that if you start shooting as soon at the muzzle clears the holster, especially with one hand, those shots are going to make it more difficult to place accurate follow up shots.

That was my thought too. I found out in Iraq, at a checkpoint an Iraqi Generals bodyguard decided to produce his firearm instead of a ginsea( ID). and decided to clear it using my chest plate as a back drop. By the time my pistol was lodged in his eye ball he could have put two rounds in me. With that system, and practice, in two seconds of me seeing his walther he would have been dead. With a line of holes starting from his dick to his forehead. Designed for quick close up threat engagement.

What is the point of firing just as the muzzle leaves the holster?
