I have a correction. This ship has a capaity of 150 passengers. Now few people have stayed up to finish the passing through the gates and I am kinda hanging out my window, not on deck. The crew has to stay up with us and they need their rest so my room was at the very end. I deided to return to my room so the crew could get some rest. They will be up early and we will take a tour of the dam in the morning. After lunch we will leave and within four hours this ship will be headed upstream from Yichang back to Chongqing, where our trip started. We may be passing through this gate but what is not constitutes two of the major problems of the dam. First, the fertile silt or loess is not passing through to make the area below the dam fertile farmland. Instead it will build up on this side of the dam making dregging necessary and expensive. In addition, the Chinese sturgeon have no ladder to jump over the dam. The extinction of this fish found only in the Yangtze River is of great concern to the people of China and those concerned about the environment. The government is experimenting with sturgeon farms in this area but are unsure of its effectiveness because of the homing nature of the fish. Make an effort to learn more about these two problems dealing with this dam project and offer suggestions to help solve them. Thanks.
