Teotihuacan is an enormous archaeological site in the Basin of Mexico, containing some of the largest pyramidal structures built in the pre-Columbian Americas. The largest pyramid, the Pyramid of the Sun, was completed by 100 AD. At its peak (450 AD), the city covered over 30 km² and probably housed a population of over 150,000 people. Archaeological evidence suggests that Teotihuacan (45 km northeast of Mexico City) was a multi-ethnic city, with distinct quarters occupied by Otomi, Zapotec, Mixtec, Maya and Nahua peoples.
