  • Sorry. Few more questions and I can't figure out how to edit my last post to include them.

The rear French Cleat: How do you shim that to overcome a garage wall that's not quite straight?

You are mounting these cabinets so they sit flush on the garage floor, correct?

  • @FrankDreban1 - cabinets and french cleats were from 3/4 hardwood plywood. I simply chose the 3/4 hardwood plywood because I got such a great deal $20 / sheet. The cabinets will be up off the floor about six inches with a kick plate attached to the front support leg. Update videos coming . . . my plate has been a bit full this summer.

  • Thanks USNERDOC! Am really enjoying this project.

  • @sraike - Thanks! I always enjoy a good home improvement project. This one has a bot of an extended timeline for sure bit it will keep me out of trouble until summer ;-)

  • how do you like your marathon TSAR watch?

  • @JSR990 - Sharp eyes! I love it . . . very comfortable and for sure durable. I tend to be hard on watches but I think the TSAR is up to the task.

  • Love the french cleat idea! thanks for sharing :)

  • Which Kreg screws are you using? And what length?

  • Great videos. I have a quick question. When the cabinet is on it's side and you are screwing down the second side, what are those little corner clamps that you are using? And is the French Cleat a single piece of 3/4 inch or two pieces, doubled up? Looked a bit thick in the video to be a single piece. Maybe I need a bigger screen so I can see better. Thanks!

  • Good vid. In the past I used 3/4" ply to build my workshop & garage cabinets but after I tried 1/2", I found it more than strong enough, it costs less, and is easier to work with and lift. Also, you only need luan ply for the back. The function of theback is to simply keep the box square, and if you're going to hang the cabinet, just glue a 1 x 4 cleat across the back from the inside at the top.

  • lol iphone text at 3:15. This looks like a nice project !

  • Great video! My dad was a handyman for a few years and expoxyed a good share of floors. He loves the stuff

  • Nice to see how the french cleats work! That's a cool way to do it. These aren't kitchen cabinets, so they'll definitely need to be strong. I would not like to put those up by myself, hope you got someone to help ya, Doc!

  • Nice.

This reminds me of "The new yankee workshop"
