I remember singing this song at primary school back in the 1950s. An unusually whimsical song compared to the usual rough bush ballads. It features a lot of flora and fauna unique to Australia.

The tune is of Irish origin, generally known as "Killaloo".

  • I haven't heard this in decades

  • @savedbyjesusblood It occasionally gets sung at the folk club I go to, but it's not well known these days.

  • Good stuff! I saw English folk singer Tony Rose perform this in the 70s with Aussie accent and concertina accompaniment. He went on to form Bandoggs with Nic Jones and Pete and Chris Coe.

  • @Heywoope Thanks for that information.

  • one of my favourite bush songs well done

  • @Robbobli Thanks. It's one I've always liked.

  • Nice song. I'm gonna have to make a trip to Australia some day.
