I think he has changed for the better. I love every album in its own way. The important thing about hopkins is that you can hear that it is him immediately. No matter what kind of style he is making he allways has those bizarre beautiful layers of ambience and granular stuff. Thats what makes his music for me. Doesnt matter if he chooses to do more upbeat stuff, because he allways has some of that awesome hopkins unique sound to it. He will forever be my biggest inspiration in electronic music.

i think the only horrible thing here is this dumb non sense comment.

when you contacted him, he was probably bored.

things change. i listened to his new album in his live and it was stunning.

if you don't like techno this doesn't mean nothing to the quality of this album.

and, i smell frustration here.... in you.

The thing about artists is that they constantly change as they grow. Their tastes change, and the work they produce changes with their tastes. Change can and will alienate an audience. If an artist doesn't alienates their audience, they aren't growing.

Jon Hopkins grew beyond your tastes. He's allowed to do this, just as you're allowed to not enjoy it. He isn't making music for your tastes. He's making music for his own.

If you like the music that Hopkins made in the beginning (Opalescent from 2001), I suggest the artist "7and5" and "Tycho".

To me, Jon Hopkins is a complete turn off. Both personal and musically.

This sounds horrible. Jon Hopkins used to be very good in the beginning (album "Opalescent" from 2001), but after that his music got worse every album. From the smooth electronic tunes that he started his career with, to these boring, uninspiring commercially frustrated, 13-in-a-dozen conveyor-belt like techno crap that others have done better years ago. When I contacted him to ask why he changed his musical preferences so rapidly, he acted like a complete twat.

You are making your presumptions based on less then a minute of audio but i guess when your motive is to belittle things that will do...
