Ray and The Darchaes are one of the many acts to come out of the Asbury Park / Neptune area of NJ. I've heard a few collectors say that they are a Brooklyn group (I'm guessing the fact that they recorded on Aljon threw them off), but they are in fact a NJ group. The Darchaes really did have that Brooklyn sound though. Great stuff!

  • Either the piano needs tuned, or he's playing flat!

  • I've noticed the same thing on a handful of early 60's Al Browne productions. I think the piano they were using at this studio was out of tune. It may have even been moved around a bit because Al had a few makeshift recording spaces in Brooklyn. A lot of his material he recorded in the back of a record shop

  • @PJDooWop THE PIANO PLAYER WAS OUT OF TUNE, RAY

  • Thank you for the clarification

  • Ray Dahrouge(Lead),Tonny Julian (Falsetto),Louie Scalpati(Tenor),Sal Capalungo(2nd Tenor),Denny Testa(Baritone) and Sam Siciliano(Bass).

  • Thank you. I knew a few of their names but not all

  • Yup not only was the tuning off, but there were a few wrong notes period!! But you know what????It's still out here and that's what counts....I'm putting it in a playlist, right or wrong....xo

  • When we first heard the "final", everyone was upset. I remember Tony Juliano calling me and saying two things....."why is background turned down so low " "and who the hell is playing the piano". The interesting thing about this song is, Ray is singing one part, and we're singing another. If you listen to both parts you get the story. I don't know of another song back in 1961-62 that had that concept. It's a testament to Ray's genius as a song writer

  • @MRRAY1271 P.J., AS I SAID BEFORE, THE TUNING WAS WAY OFF PLUS THEY PLAYED THE "WRONG" NOTES. THEY WERE IN ANOTHER KEY. A KEY WE" WEREN'T" SINGING IN. I NEVER

EXPERIENCED THIS EVER AGAIN IN HUNDREDS OF SESSIONS I'VE BEEN IN IN NEW YORK, NEW JERSEY, CT, PHILLY & NASHVILLE.. PEACE, YOUR FRIEND, RAY

  • Love this song, grew up listening to, & practicing it. No one can sound like Ray tho!

  • Wonderful tune :))
