  • In the spring of 1965 (when this promo aired during "JONNY QUEST"), ABC's Sunday morning line-up consisted of "BEANY & CECIL" [10:30am(et)], "THE BULLWINKLE SHOW" [11am(et)] and "DISCOVERY '65" [11:30am(et)].

  • ABC Shows were converted to color in September 1965 some daytime shows were in color in 1963 and 1964.

  • CBS began running cartoons Sundays in 1967. They had just the 9 AM and 9:30 time frames. Their first Sunday shows were "Tom & Jerry" and "Underdog." They'd run kids shows on Sundays through 1984. NBC never did program kids shows on Sundays.

  • Dang man, my older bro used to watch abc in the 60's, in 1976 (I was three) we got a color tv, I loved it.

  • LMAO!! "Oh, you great big irresistible hunk of masculinity!"

  • you forgot fall 1965 live action saturday with ringo in the series!

  • As a child, I was a huge fan of both these shows. All these years later, I don't remember too much about Beany & Cecil. However, I'm still a gigantic fan of Rocky and Bullwinkle.

  • As for black and white vs. color, while color broadcasting was becoming more and more commonplace by the mid to late 1960's, some ABC affiliates still broadcast in B&W, even if ABC broadcast nationally in color, due to the high cost of color equipment at the time-too expensive for some ABC affiliates' budgets. Also, ABC was the perennial 3rd place network for many years, and often did not have the finances that NBC and CBS had.

I remember the Beany and Cecil show well. It was an animated remake of the 1950's puppet show "Time For Beany". Also, there were two DVD's of Beany and Cecil cartoons released.

As for Sunday morning cartoons, ABC often ran cartoons that lost their popularity on Saturday mornings. (I don't recall NBC or CBS programming cartoons on Sunday mornings in the 1960's.) Typically the cartoons were seen as an alternative to the religious/church programming typically on Sunday morning

  • @GOOSEYGOOSE9, not all. "The Patty Duke Show", "McHale's Navy", and "Bewitched" still aired in B&W "McHale's Navy" nearly got renewed for a fifth season, but A.B.C. declined at the last minute because they wouldn't finance the show being filmed in color (despite the two "McHale's Navy" feature films).

  • @webmail111 Same here. I was not around in 1965. It must of been a different time. Anyways, if was there, I would of been dragged off to church not been able to see any cartoons.

  • i only remember cartoons on saturday morning, not sunday.
