@doodahgal Davies is pronounced with the short i sound, hence, Davis.

yeah, at the end of the show, Letterman actually called him Ray DAVIS--Ray looked exasperated when Letterman did that
I can't believe his voice sounds so much the same.....that unmistakable, fabulous voice.
