My Ragdoll kitten, Solo, hacking or coughing. I wasn't sure if it was a hairball, he has never coughed anything up before.

*edit* turns out he has seasonal asthma. Vets took an xray of his chest and diagnosed asthma. It seems symptoms are worst during warmer weather. He got some antibiotics and steroids which cleared it all up however we will see if it returns with the changes in weather.

I hope this video can help others figure out if their cat has asthma or just a hairball!

  • more likely kennel cough especially if it cleared right up.

  • @rsfff Thanks for the idea that it could have been kennel cough, I also suspected that. However symptoms of kennel cough include fever, sneezing and coughing, swollen lymph nodes, and runny nose/eyes. I am pretty sure I trust my vet that after looking at his chest through an x-ray and reviewing my video he said it was asthma!

  • Dude My cat is having trouble breathing and im very worried it just started 3 days ago is not as fast as yours in the vid but the abdominal area gets to big when she breathes and she is very exhausted there are not vets in the area due to vacation time and i wanted to know if is URGENT for a vet to see her or can it wait until monday ???

  • @XxChEcKoxX i would get to an emergency vet asap. if your cat is exhausted I would be terribly worried. Solo always went right back to normal after his coughing, never was he exhausted. Hope it is all ok :(

  • thanks for posting the video. i've seen my cat doing this before and thought it was heartburn from eating a little human food. i'll know now to see if it's asthma.

  • Omg my cat has that!!! She has the attacks all the time, but I calm her down.

  • kennel cough doesn't HAVE to be all the above.. it can be just one thing or heck just under the radar and no symptoms at all

  • Oh my god..

I have a siamese kitten who has started doing this a month or so ago.

I'm soososossosooooo glad it's not something extremely dangerous and that I can get medication for it.

She does this but really really fast, too.

I am bringing her to a vet.

  • F.U.S. Tablets during weather changes...No more Steroids.

  • my cat is doing the same thing. her breathing is a lot faster than yours though, and it started spontaneously.

  • what a beautiful cat !

  • My cat has done that, I thought it was going to like puke or something! Thankfully, it was a hairball! Best wishes to you and your cat-
