North Korea Issue from G8 to G6

Ceaseless discussions one after another.

*Right after the Group of Eight Summit in Toyako, Hokkaido closed on July 9th , the six-party talks was held in Beijing, issuing on North Korea's nuclear disablement. The discussion regarded negotiations on establishing a verification and monitoring method for Pyongyang's nuclear facilities. The talks also focused on fuel aid to energy-starved North Korea, which has complained that countries involved in the talks have supplied only 40 percent of promised energy shipments. At the end of the six-party talks, the deal reached to an agreement of North Korea to disable its main reactor by the end of October and a verification procedure which included a team of experts who will visit North Korean nuclear facilities, review documents and interview technical experts. In exchange, the United States and Russia assured to provide the promised amount of heavy fuel by the end of October, while China and South Korea would work to sign agreements with North Korea on other assistance. Japan has opted out of contributing because of the reamaining issue with North Korea over abductions of Japanese citizens, but agreed to pitch in too "as soon as possible when the environment is in place."
