Rare Kodiak Alaska Purple Moose Sighting

Kodiak boasts an incredible abundance of wild critters: brown bear, mountain goat, sitka black tail deer, caribou, red fox, river otter, bald eagle, salmon, dolly varden, rainbow, stickleback, halibut, rock fish, blah blah more fish than i want to name, brown bat, tundra vole, short-tailed weasel---thats the short list, and these are all relatively well-known and studied, and more or less common place. but Kodiak is also home to a unique and rare species of moose that evolved on the island with many peculiar traits not seen in mainland moose, most likely due to the remoteness and isolation, and small numbers of these amazing animals. They haven't been studied at all, and there have been few surviving encounters with this violent animal. This video was taken by two smolt technicians living and working at Frazer Lake on the south end of the island, and is possibly the only video of its kind, showing the Purple Moose's incredible behavior in its natural habitat.

Hey.

We loved this stupid video. We found it by accident while surfing for kodiak wildlife and loved it... Had a mixed response from the folks we sent it to, guess you have to live here to find the humor... The moose does an amazing rendition of my husbands moose in heat call though... Wonder if they met at the Mecca one night.. hehe
